The strings that hold you down
For my proposal, I decided to do an art piece representing my monologue theme, which is power. This connects to Macbeth because in Macbeth the power is thrown around every time someone dies. These different things happening effects the society in the world but at the end of the story, they managed to fix their problem with those in power and everything became normal again. My art piece represents a lot of things at once so I will be going over each thing I drew, and what each thing means. The first thing in my piece, is a girl being controlled by the hands of society like a marionette. This represents how we don't always notice when the society, or who's in power, controls us. The girl being controlled, is also being made to cut her hair short. This represents when we do realise when society, or who's in power is controlling us. I made this shown, by her cutting her hair, because I know for me at least, it's a stressful and difficult thing getting your haircut when you don’t want it too. This is because it's a part of who you are, and in my eyes, when my hair is cut, it almost feels like removing a part of myself. Another large thing in my art piece is all of the things that represent chance. These things include, the dice, the chess pieces, the cards, and the card designs on the girls dress. It represents a game of chance, as that is what the world is. It's all a huge game of chance and we don't always get to choose the outcome of what happens.. If those more powerful want something and those below power want something else, those in the majority or in power will get what they want. There are also a few things that represent smaller things in the world, for example, on the floor, their are some discolored tiles, and this represents imperfection. The chess pieces and the cards are kings and queens, which just represents a kind of power that has existed. Higher up on the page the mountains are a symbol of how much space society rules over, as mountains are quite large. The sky shows that it's nighttime because if you're in the darkness, you are unaware of what goes on around you. I don’t think I need to explain this one. Last, which doesn't actually represent anything, is the flag triangle things and the background behind the girl, these are just space filler. Overall, we don’t always see how we are being controlled in the world, but we are. Will you let the society control you, or yill you take a different path like the sons of King Duncan in Macbeth. Don't let the strings of society hold you down.
