Part 1
I made a portfolio holder during the first week, and painted one side, and then next week, i'm going to paint the other to see if I learned anything new regarding how I paint. Also, during the last week we are going to compile all my work together and take pictures of larger things I worked on.
2. How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education?
It taught me to listen to my surroundings better and how to better manage my time. As an artist, you have to manage your own time and create your own deadlines and things like that. It's important to learn to stay organized and to make sure you actually get things done. I've also gotten to get more practice with talking to people; I have gotten to interview a few other artists that my mentor knows.
3.What did you learn about your own work from your internship project?
My mentor, Miss Yvette, has helped me see what aspects of art I enjoy the most. Now I have a clearer decision on what I want to do with my art in college and when i'm finished with school. I've decided to try to go into the career of character design as my favorite thing about art is getting to create my own little worlds, and you can't have a world without a character to live in it.
Part 2
Miss Yvette, my mentor, has the best kind of personality for running her own business. She is incredibly good at talking to people and she acts super confident. For me, considering i'm a shy introverted kid, those would be the best characteristics to try to develop for myself. I need to learn how to communicate and understand people if i'm going to be my own boss for my career when I grow up.
2. How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern?/ 3. How might internship influence the direction of your life?
I now have a clearer idea of what i'm going to do after high school. Up until this month, when I thought about the future I only saw college for 4 years, and then me somehow getting enough money to buy a bunch of land in the woods. Now I see what I have to do in order to develop my own art business, or to manage myself and the characters I create so I can try to sell them to licensing companies. Internship has also helped me understand the difficult parts of many of the paths art can take me down. For instance, I used to want to go into the career of animation, but I got to interview an animator and he did not like his job. (His name was Martin) Martin said that being an animator is almost like factory work. You don't get any creative freedom and you are always out of work every few months. My mentor Miss Yvette has helped show me what career paths I can take that allow me to still be creative while still making enough money to live my life.
