Self-advocacy questions:
I've gotten to know my mentor Miss Yvette pretty well so I haven't really had to think about it much. I haven't had many notable reasons to need to speak up for myself during internship.
Are you following the advice in "How to be an intern everyone remembers"? If so, how is it working out? If not, what are you going to start doing?
There were 5 tips in "how to be an intern everyone remembers" and I'd like to believe i've followed all of them.
Tip 1: Always be doing something:
I haven't really had to act on this tip much because I've always had something to, and when I do finish some things early I try to clean up my work area.
Tip 2: Don't go to a meeting without a notebook:
We've done a few interviews and are going to do a few more in the future. When we do interviews i'm asked to come up with 10-ish questions to ask, so I always bring extra paper, or leave space on the questions papers to take notes.
Tip 3: Get to know your colleagues early:
For the most part its just Miss Yvette and I, so I didn't have to worry much about this tip.
Tip 4: Show up on time (Or early) for everything.
Because my parents drive me to and from internship, this tip has extremely easy to follow. I have to show up very early anyways because my parents work schedules don't allow me to show up late. I'm usually about 30 minutes to an hour early and in this time I get to read.
Tip 5: Dress more professionally then you think you need to:
The first day I dressed slightly professionally, but my mentor Miss Yvette was worried I would ruin my cloths as we had planned to paint during internship. This means I get to wear my paint destroyed cloths which is awesome. (Most of my cloths are destroyed with ink and paint anyways so it worked out really well)
